Reproductive rights are legal rights and freedoms for individuals and couples to freely decide whether and when to have children, to access the highest standard of sexual and reproductive healthcare, and to make all decisions relating to reproduction without discrimination, coercion or violence.
An onslaught of anti-choice legislation, particularly at the state level, is limiting or banning women’s access to reproductive health care and endangering lives. Many of these policies, from expanded mandatory waiting periods to TRAP (targeted regulation of abortion providers) laws designed to make it impossible for abortion providers to operate, significantly interfere with a woman’s right to reproductive health and autonomy.
Women should be able to make their own decisions about their bodies and lives. That can only happen if we permanently bring down barriers to safe, legal, affordable access to contraception and abortion, obstetric and prenatal care and the education needed to make free and informed choices. It requires mobilizing with the vast majority of other Americans—women and men—who view reproductive rights as fundamental to self-determination and human dignity.
