Chicago NLG’s Annual May Day Party!

*Wellington Ave UCC is wheelchair accessible.

Come celebrate all of the accomplishments of Chicago’s activist communities on International Workers’ Day! Join community activists, organizers, legal workers, law students, and lawyers for a night of drinking, dancing and fundraising to allow NLG to continue providing legal support for local liberation movements.

As the Trump administration poses a grave threat to civil liberties and human rights at home and abroad, it is critical that Chicago NLG continues to provide legal support for our city’s liberation movements opposing its policies at every step of the way.

Join us for a night of revelry and rebellion as we raise $$ to ensure that legal support for progressive movements can expand! Get your tickets in advance or at the door-$15-$50 sliding scale.

Over the past two and a half years, Chicago activists, primarily led by youth leaders of color, have successfully organized to pass a city reparations ordinance providing for compensatory and other healing measures for survivors of Chicago police torture, they have courageously used direct action to pressure the University of Chicago to open a trauma center on the southside, they organized coordinated street blockades against the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and recently came together to completely shut down Trump for the first time nationally. Continuing this inspiring trajectory, Chicago activists used grassroots community-based campaigns to vote out corrupt political leaders who were responsible for covering up police murders and pushing policies driving mass incarceration. Both in the streets and in the courts, we have a lot to celebrate this year!

Throughout all of this inspiring organizing, Chicago NLG provided legal observers on the streets at dozens of actions, and the organization fielded a dedicated team of attorneys and legal workers to visit arrestees and provide free or low-cost criminal representation to activists whenever they were arrested during political actions. Since May 2015, NLG mass defense attorneys have represented over 500 activists facing city ordinance, misdemeanor, and felony charges.

You see us on the streets and in the courts, now join us on the dance floor!
