Survivor & Ally Empowerment Day
In recognition of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, join Sen. Curtis Hertel, Jr. and Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker for Survivor and Ally Empowerment Day, a day of advocacy and empowerment for survivors of sexual assault. We encourage survivors to embrace their voice and recognize their power. Together, survivors and allies have the power to effect change through legislative action like Yes Means Yes (SB 620), an affirmative consent bill introduced by Sen. Hertel and co-sponsored by Sen. Schuitmaker. On April 26th, let’s use our voices to inspire and call for cultural and systemic change to end sexual violence.
9:00 AM Rally—gather at the Capitol steps for the Empowerment Rally! Find out who your legislators are and learn how to share your story and information on sexual violence with them. Speakers (TBA) will begin at 9:30 AM
10:00 AM Senate Session Presentation—join us for session in the Senate chamber gallery as Sen. Hertel presents a resolution to declare April 26th Survivor Empowerment Day and honors survivors
1:00 PM Consent Forum (Capitol rooms 402/403)—survivors and allies will be able to share their story and support for sexual assault legislation with a panel of legislators
