Progressive Forum 3

Summit County Progressive Democrats PAC (SCPD) will sponsor a third progressive action forum on September 7, 2017. The purpose of the forum is networking among the growing number of progressive groups, organizations and activists in and around Summit, Stark, Medina, Portage and Wayne Counties. The forum will be held at United Steelworkers of America Local 2L, 501 Kelly Avenue in Akron, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Two highly successful forums were held on March 16, 2017 and June 8, 2017. Total attendance was 250 people. Numerous organizations had information tables. There was lively open mic discussion. Many plans for action were made as people with common interests and purposes got to know one another. The participants asked that this third forum be held.

In addition to information tables and discussion as before, SCPD will offer door-to-door canvassing training at the end of the forum. There will also be an announcement about a new website being developed for continuing activity and communication by forum participants.

“The forum will provide a rallying point for people who are excited and energized to support progressive policies in Ohio and who want to resist what the government is doing in Washington. That includes Democratic party activists, labor, folks in new and existing progressive groups and those who are mainly focused on particular issues like climate change and gerrymandering,” said SCPD President Thomas Townsend.

“We need to get to know each other and what we’re all doing, since collaboration will make the entire progressive effort stronger. In addition, we hope that progressive activists will learn how to speak comfortably with voters at their homes. Those conversations are what are needed to really implement change. Everyone is welcome to come, including Trump voters who have had second thoughts,” Townsend concluded.
