Racial Justice and Socialism Reading Group
The North Brooklyn Political Education Committee has organized a 9 week reading group on racial justice and socialism. As socialists we recognize that the struggle against racism is central to undoing the power of the white supremacist capitalist patriarchal elite. If we are serious about building a socialist movement we need to understand how racism, sexism, and economic injustice pervade and dominant all aspects of our society.
The readings we have prepared will address class reductionism, debates between identity and class politics, the 2016 reparations debate between Ta-Nehisi Coates and Cedric Johnson, the black radical tradition, the reproductive justice paradigm, mass incarceration, labor, migration, and developing world politics. We hope participants will walk away with a more nuanced understanding of the connection between racial and economic justice, as well as a newfound desire to tackle racism both societally and within our organization.
