Please join fellow Dems for a discussion of this brief, instructive book. We will take up 5 of the
20 lessons at each group. On Sunday, July 16, at 12-2pm, we will discuss the first 5 principles:
1. Do not obey in advance.
2. Defend institutions.
3. Beware the one-party state.
4. Take responsibility for the face of the world.
5. Remember professional ethics.
Our discussion will follow the 3-step model, What? So what? Now what? The first task – What?
– is to understand each lesson well enough to explain it in your own words. The second task –
So what? – is to interpret each lesson and identify current, real-life examples. The third task –
Now what? – is to plan concrete, effective actions that implement the lesson.
But this won’t be merely an intellectual exercise. Every participant will walk out of the discussion with a plan to do at least one thing – a specific, tangible action – that will build wider engagement and small-d democracy.
Please join us.
