Clean Energy and Climate Action Advocacy Skills Training

The Ohio Energy Table cordially invites all staff, membership, volunteers and activists to join us in Columbus for a one-day training event designed to provide leadership development and skills-based experiences necessary to effectively advocate for clean energy policies and action on climate change in Ohio.

9:15am – 10:30am Energy Policy 101
Trish Demeter of the Ohio Environmental Council will detail a brief history of energy policy in Ohio as well as information on legislation pending at the Statehouse

10:30am – 11:45am Guidance for Meeting with Lawmakers
Leo Almeida of The Nature Conservancy and Sarah Spence of the Ohio Environmental Council will discuss tips and best practices for communicating with your elected officials on issues of energy and the environment. Lawmakers have been invited to attend during this session to provide personal feedback on engaging lawmakers.

12:45pm – 2:00pm Tips for Earned Media Outreach
Angela Krile of Krile Communications will provide information and practical applications of writing letters to the editor, how to fine-tune your message when talking to a reporter, and the “what to do and not to do” list for all media interactions

2:00pm – 3:00pm Effective Social Media Campaigns
Shaun Dakin of Dakin Associates in Washington, DC will dive into the world of social media for advocacy efforts. When should you tweet or post? What is a hashtag? How do you maximize your audience with social media efforts?
