Blood Mirror Exhibition Opens
The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) will display artist Jordan’s Eagles’ Blood Mirror sculpture from September 22 to December 9, 2017. The sculpture is part of city-wide exhibitions and events address the FDA’s blood donation policy and advocate for LGBTQ equality.
Blood Mirror was created from the donated blood of 59 gay, bisexual, and transgender men in protest of the FDA’s ban to allow gay and bisexual men to donate blood only after they have been celibate for 12-months. Each of the 59 men is ineligible to donate blood under the FDA’s current policy–but according to a press release, “since they cannot donate their blood to save lives, they’ve chosen to donate their blood for art.”
