Crafting a Social Media Message for International LGBT Issues

Working with digital communications specialists, this community workshop is intended to help local non-profit organizations shape language, stories, and calls to action around international LGBT issues. The focus will be on crafting a message that will be able to raise funds and build awareness.

In order for this workshop to be succesful, participants are asked to bring either a personal or organizatonal mission statement, and 1-2 international LGBT issues you’d like for your nonprofit to message on.

During this workshop, we will cover the following topics:
a. How to do research and get facts right even when there is not complete information available to you.
b. How to craft a message that brings forth your unique viewpoint as activists and organizations without making the issue “about you”.
c. How to avoid being reductive of complex issues, and avoid common tropes and stereotypes about marginalized persons
d. How to utilize your message for fundraising & advocacy.
