SURJ Columbus IN – Celebrating Our Diversity March/Rally

is hosting the 2017 Celebrate Our Diversity March in Downtown Columbus, IN on May 21st!

In conjunction with The World Day for Cultural Diversity, which was adopted by UNESCO in 2001 and the United Nations General Assembly in 2002.

The event on Sunday, May 21st, will kick off at City Hall at 4pm and we will march to the closed off section of 4th street, where there will be speakers and music and interactions.

The objectives of the event are:

1) learn about the types of discrimination that are happening here

2) what resources are available to help

3) specific actions we can all take to make Columbus more safe and welcoming to all of our fellow neighbors.

We also want to stress to the majority citizens what they can do to put their sense of justice to work in making Columbus a truly welcoming and safe place for all.

We want to provide support for the following groups:
– African American community
– American Indians
– CAMEO organizations
– Immigrants
– Islamic Society
– Jewish Community
– Latinx community
– People with disabilities

Details are still in the making. If there is a member of your group who would like to be involved in the planning, please have them contact an admin on this page.
