U: The Lewis Powell Memo

After significant gains in the 1960's as various people's movements intersected (Labor, Voting Rights, Women's Rights, Peace and Environmental) the wealthy in America became concerned that people would become too politically powerful -a real democracy might not be far behind.

In August, 1971 Lewis Powell wrote a famous memo to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce -designing the well-funded and mature machine we face in every bitterly fought election cycle.

Media consolidation, controlling higher education and freedom of thought, The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), "think tanks" charged with shifting power and wealth away from the people and back toward the very wealthy.

It's not a large document and incredibly important knowledge for any of his actively working to organize people against concentrated wealth in generational battle between an American Democracy or a Plutocracy.
