I Am Here Screening + Fundraiser Kickoff!

We are thrilled to announce the first public screening of “I Am Here,” a feature-length film inspired by the stories of Youth Rise members and produced in collaboration with the Creative Action Youth Cinema Collective. “I Am Here” follows the story of Yesenia (played by YRTX member Giselle Garibay), an aspiring poet, navigating young adulthood and the political realities of being part of a family with mixed immigration status. You can view the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6_4TbEdEgY&feature=youtu.be

The screening of “I Am Here” kicks off our fall digital fundraiser which supports our Mentored Youth Fellowship Program. Over the course of the academic school year, youth fellows work on a transformative project of their own design with the guidance and support of an adult mentor. Each fellow receives a $1K award for successful completion of their project, to be used for future educational and leadership development expenses.

“I Am Here” is the final project of one of last year’s fellows, Edson Cruz, who was mentored by a filmmaker. Edson received hands on experience co-writing the screenplay and editing the film. The screening will be followed by a Q&A panel with Youth Rise members who made contributions, both in front of and behind the scenes.

This event is open to the public. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided! No advance ticket is necessary and donations to support our Mentored Youth Fellowship Program will be enthusiastically accepted onsite. Please help us meet our goal of offering TEN youth fellowships this year, and celebrate the long awaited completion of “I Am Here”!
