Public Newsroom #55: Trump Diaries Present Angel + Derek

For the past year, a team of radio makers from across the country have been working on a new way of documenting shared phenomena from multiple perspectives. Tentatively called the Trump Diaries, their project documents the presidency from the point of view of ordinary people whose lives are potentially being changed by the current administration.

Angel + Derek, their in-progress pilot episode, addresses a topic many can relate to right now: friendships with people we disagree with. It also addresses religions, immigration, and polarization.

Come by the newsroom for a special preview screening of Angel + Derek, and a discussion led by WBEZ Curious City producer and team member Jesse Dukes about their documentary methodology, and the challenges of representation presented in telling this story.

This event is part of City Bureau’s #PublicNewsroom programming, a series of free, weekly workshops and discussions aimed at building trust between journalists and the communities they serve while shaping a more inclusive newsroom.
