PeaceKeeper Training (with David E. Gibson)
In light potential threats in today’s environment and aggression against protestors, Peacekeeping training is of paramount importance to ensure the safety of marchers. We are offering a 2-Part Training by one of our very own local activists, David E. Gibson, of Peace Justice Sustainability Florida and PeaceHome Campaigns.
As an organizer, fundraiser, and activist with a 30-year history working independently and on the staff of a wide variety of progressive non-profits, few have had such in-depth experience in confrontation. The issues David and his organizations have tackled range from environmental safety and restoration (including clean air, clean water and natural sustainability) to advocacy and empowerment for the homeless, woman’s rights and international human rights efforts, to anti-poverty and environmental-justice, anti-war and foreign policy concerns.
PART 1: PRINCIPALS OF NON-VIOLENCE AND DIRECT ACTION (1.5 Hours).
Presentation: Learn how Non Violent Direct Action is a powerful, strategic organizing approach to achieve social change. Non-Violence is a way of life for courageous people. It is assertive spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. It is effective in persuading the opponent of the justice to your cause. Non-violence seeks to win friendship and understanding, from the abstention of violence. This may be based on moral, religious, or plainly spiritual principles, yet can be asserted for strategic and pragmatic reasons, to stave off and prevent violence.
INTERMISSION: Food/Drinks Available for purchase (30 Minutes).
PART 2: IMPORTANCE AND ROLE OF THE PEACEKEEPER (1.5 Hours).
This training focuses on various scenarios that will be acted out and how to best respond to ensure safety of marchers while also learning the most effective responses to potential threats in today’s heightened political climate. With hands on training and role-play, you begin to learn the skills and techniques necessary to be an effective professional PeaceKeeper.
